Islam has made the Hijab obligatory for Muslim women. A hijab is mandatory for a girl when she reaches adulthood. This is the time to start wearing a hijab. But when can a woman take off her Hijab? This question is very relevant.
Today’s blog discusses when a woman can take off her Hijab. This post will include a description of taking off the Hijab and answers to related questions.
When can a woman take off her Hijab?
A woman can take off her Hijab when she becomes old. Allah Ta’ala has forgiven the Hijab from them. But they must be of such an age that no one is interested in marrying them. Also, even if they don’t wear Hijab, they can’t dress up. They will wear simple, modest clothes only.
One of the reasons Islam instructs women to wear a Hijab is to keep society safe from fitna. Fitna refers to scandals and anti-social activities involving women.
But when a woman takes off the Hijab after becoming older, there is no room for scandals and chaos in the society created by women. On the contrary, if a young girl walks into the club without a hijab, various kinds of fitna and unrest will be made in the community around her.
So, a woman can stop Hijab when she gets old. But young women can’t. They must wear a Hijab when they go out. Otherwise, they will be sinners.
When can a woman take off the Hijab in the Quran?
A woman can take off the Hijab when she becomes too old; this is a direct instruction of a verse of the Holy Quran. In the context of this verse, the imams have confirmed the said law.
In the Holy Quran, Allah Ta’ala says,
And old women who have no interest in getting married. There is no sin if they remove their clothes (hijab) without showing beauty. (Surat An-Noor – 60)
The meaning of this verse is –
When Muslim women get older and have no interest in marrying them because they are too old and do not have the physical strength, and they are not interested in getting married, they have no difficulty taking off their clothes.
The Hijab is meant by cloth. That means they can keep their faces and hands open because no one is interested in marrying such women.
But the condition is – they can not show beauty by wearing beautiful clothes. Facial beauty will not be able to take any action. For example – I am using antimony in the eyes.
Mufti Taqi Usmani’s commentary on this verse
This provision is for older women unsuitable for marriage due to reaching extreme old age. As a result, no one is attracted to them. They are given the privilege of not going outside in front of a mahram man like other women who have to wrap a large sheet or wear a burqa.
Such an older woman can take off the Hijab and go before a stranger. But the condition is they cannot hide in front of them. It is also clarified that this relaxation of provisions is only permissible in their case.
So it is better if they take extra precautions and, like other women, keep the veil entirely in front of other men.
Conditions for a woman to take off the Hijab
Here is a principle that is important regarding a woman’s situation. In other words, the hijab rules are relaxed for those older women whom no one feels attracted to, and she is not eligible for marriage.
An unrelated person also becomes like a mahram for him. This doesn’t need older women to cover the unnecessary parts for Mahrams, even for strangers.
It has been said for such an older woman that the parts that can be exposed in front of a mahram can be told in front of a person who is not a mahram but on the condition that she does not adorn herself. Finally, it is also said that it is better for him if he completely refrains from coming in front of non-mahram people.
So the verse stipulates that a woman can take off the Hijab, whose desire to adorn herself and whose sexual passion has cooled.
But if there is still a spark alive in this fire and it continues to adopt the form of an exhibition of beauty, then it can no longer benefit from this permission.
In front of whom a woman can take off the Hijab
For a woman who has her men, when she is in front of them, she can take off the Hijab. It will not be forbidden for him. Those men are the mahram men of that woman.
There are 14 men for one woman. When she is in front of them, she can take off her Hijab.
