What does Islam say about sexless marriages? This question is asked by many. Before answering this, let me tell you a short story.
One couple was living a very happy life. But one day his wife contracted a serious disease.
The husband shows up to different doctors. Taken from one Medical to another medical. Due to various tests. But no disease was caught.
Finally, finding no way out, the husband hugged his wife and started crying. He was very kind to his wife.
At that time, the wife addressed the husband and asked, “What will you do if I die?” My husband says I will never marry another woman.
I will cherish your memory in my heart for the rest of my life. The wife says – I do not believe you.
My mind says – when I die you will marry a beautiful girl. Then forget me.
Husband says – I will not marry any girl when you die, I will give you proof? The wife says – okay what will prove. Let’s see.
Husband says – wait a minute. I am bringing proof. Then the husband went to the bathroom. After a while, he brought his severed penis.
This is not proof that he cut his penis with his wife. Seeing this, the wife started shouting, “Oh, what have you done?”
I did not have any disease. I just wanted to see how much you love me. and pretended to be sick for this, but you have defeated me.
Then they had to go through a sexless marriage because of their stupidity.
Dear reader, if there is no sex in married life, then what is the value of such married life?
Today we are discussing – what does Islam say about sexless marriages? I hope this blog will be useful for everyone.

- Why is sexless marriage not allowed in Islam?
What does Islam say about sexless marriages?
Sexless marriage is haram in Islam. In the field especially the conditions of sexless marriage will be cancelled but the marriage will remain fine.
Islamic scholars have come up with some important solutions in this regard. We are discussing them.
One: If a person makes it a condition at the time of marriage that intercourse between them is not halal, then his condition and marriage will be annulled. This is the opinion of the majority Fuqaha.
Two: If someone stipulates at the time of marriage that sexual intercourse will not take place between them, then according to the strong opinion, the marriage will be valid but the condition will be annulled.
Islamic scholars have discussed at length about sexless marriage. We have only summarized their words.
There can be two types of a sexless marriage.
Type 1: Maybe they will get married but they will consider intercourse between them as haram.
There is no disagreement about the cancellation of conditions in this type of marriage. But there is some disagreement on the question of annulment of marriage.
According to the majority of jurists, marriage will also be dissolved. Among them, Imam Malik, Imam Shafi, Imam Ahmad Ibn Humble are particularly notable.
The second type is – they will condition that there will be no intercourse between them. In this case, the marriage will be fine but the condition will be cancelled.
They will be able to have intercourse after the marriage. This is the opinion of almost all Imams, including Imam Abu Hanifa.
The third type is the marriage of a person whose genitals are not hard. Or whose genitals are dominated. Or he may have lost his sexual energy due to some disease or age.
The ruling of such a person is that he cannot marry a young woman or a young woman full of lust.
Because no one can satisfy his sexual desire by such a person. He will be forced to engage in haraam ways.
But if he marries a woman with no sexual desire like him, it will be legal. In this case, both are equal in terms of being sexless.
What does Islam say about marriage and sex?
Islam says that sex between husband and wife is not just a means of worldly pleasures and sexual desires.
Islam has hidden the welfare of this world in every one of its provisions. Social order. Health safety.
At the same time, he considers the path and system of liberation in the hereafter. Therefore, in the case of marriage, Islam has given priority to worldly and otherworldly welfare.
Therefore, when a man came and asked permission to marry a captive woman, the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) did not allow him to do so.
Because having a child and nurturing it is very important in Islam. It brings benefits in this world and in the Hereafter.
In another hadith –
One of the Companions asked the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him), ‘Can a man attain virtue even if he has intercourse with his wife?’
He replied, “Wouldn’t it be a sin for him to have sexual intercourse with a girl who is not a slave?”
But why is it not rewarded to have sexual intercourse in a halal way? ‘(Sahih Muslim – 720)
From this hadith, it is understood that having sex between husband and wife is important. Because in it is the infinite welfare of this world and the Hereafter.
Why is sexless marriage not allowed in Islam?
If there is no sexual intercourse between husband and wife, then the sweetness of married life becomes exhausted. In Islam, one has to be deprived of the noble purpose of marriage.
Because one of the major purposes of marriage in Islam is to give birth to children, to maintain the lineage, to preserve the character and the place of shame.
And nothing is achieved by sexless marriage. So Islam does not support such marriages.
The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) encouraged women who gave birth to more children to marry. In some cases, it is forbidden to marry a married woman.
Sexless marriage not allowed in Islam
As narrated from Makil Ibn Sinan – Radiyallahu Anhu –
A man came to the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, and said, “I have found a girl who is of noble lineage, but she is a slave.” Can I marry her?
The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) forbade her from this marriage.
Then the man came a second time and when he made the same request, he refused. Then he came for the third time and demanded the same. Even then he denied it.
Then the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said, ‘Marry women who are more enchanting and more powerful.’
Because in the Hereafter I will be proud of a large number of my Ummah. (Abu Dawood – 2025)
And is it possible for a young man and a young woman to be in the same bed without intercourse while they are married?
If they become diseased or lose their sexual energy due to old age, then it is acceptable to the conscience.
But if they possess sexual power, can they keep one another free from sexual attraction?
Otherwise, where will they find their sexual satisfaction except in the place where Allah has given legitimacy to fulfil their sexual needs?
