Is Shrimp halal in islam?

One of my religious brothers asked me on Facebook – Is Shrimp halal in Islam? To answer his question, I studied and collected some references and information.

All in all, I make an article. Then I saw many people on Google asking this same question – is it halal to eat Shrimp? Searching by typing.

So I am publishing the post on my website so that all classes of people can know the answer to their desired questions. I hope that after reading this, no one will doubt whether Shrimp is halal or haram in Islam.

What is Shrimp?

Shrimp is a type of seafood that is similar in appearance to a shrimp. Prawns are typically larger than Shrimp and have a slightly sweeter taste.

They are commonly found in oceans, seas, and rivers worldwide and are a popular food item in many cultures.

Prawns can be cooked in various ways, including grilling, boiling, frying, or sautéing, and are often used in dishes such as curries, stir-fries, and salads.

Does it include fish?

No, fish are not considered to be prawns. Prawns are a specific type of shellfish, while fish is a different type of seafood with fins and scales.

Muslims who follow the halal dietary laws can consume a wide variety of seafood, including fish, prawns, crabs, lobsters, clams, and oysters, as long as Islamic dietary guidelines prepare them.

This includes halal methods for slaughtering animals, which involves swiftly cutting the throat while reciting a prayer.

It is important to note that not all Muslims follow these dietary laws. Variations in halal may vary depending on a given community’s specific cultural or religious traditions.

However, for those who follow halal guidelines, it is important to be mindful of the source and preparation of the seafood they consume to ensure that it is by Islamic dietary laws.

Is Shrimp halal in Islam?

Yes, Shrimp is halal in Islam. This is the opinion of most jurists of the Maliki school, the Shafi’i school, and the Hanbali school.

They say it is halal to eat all the animals in the sea. However, eating a few animals, such as frogs, pigs, etc., is not halal.

Prophet Muhammad – may Allah bless him and grant him peace – did not give any instructions by mentioning the name of Shrimp in the Hadith.

But once a Companion said to the Messenger of Allah – may God bless him and grant him peace – we travel on the sea for a long time. There is a food shortage.

What are things in the sea valid for us? Then he said sea water is holy and dead in the ocean is halal. He wants to say that they can use seawater.

And the animals in the sea are halal while alive, but they are halal when dead. Based on this, all kinds of animals are considered halal in Islam.

Except for certain animals like crocodiles, crocodiles, etc. Because they are forbidden in the Hadith, and since Shrimp has not been made haram, it is halal.

Quran and Hadith guidance about Shrimp

In general, things that have not been declared haram are considered halal. And nowhere in the Qur’an or Hadith is Shrimp directly forbidden.

So Shrimp is halal. In addition, they present some references from the Qur’an and Hadith, which is strong enough to prove their point. I am highlighting them below.

Allah says (interpretation of the meaning):

‘He has made lawful for you all kinds of seafood and seafood. (Surat al-Ma’ida: 96)

The guidance in this verse is comprehensive and includes sea-dwelling animals. And the Shrimp is also an animal that roams the sea.

The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said,

‘Sea water is pure, and its dead animals are halal.’ (Musnad Ahmad)

In this Hadith, animals taken from the sea in dead conditions have been declared halal. But no type of animal has been specified.

This Hadith shows us that all kinds of marine animals are halal and legal to eat dead.

And it is self-evident that the halal animal in its dead state will be better in its living form.

So since shrimShrimp marine animals, eating shrimp-like like other marine animals will also be legal.

Opinions of scholars

Almost all the prominent Islamic scholars of the world say that eating shrimShrimpalal.

Mufti Menk said – Shrimp is a sacred marine animal. There is no Quran and Hadith prohibition about it.

On the contrary, it is said in the Qur’an that marine prey is lawful for you, and in the Hadith, it is said that dead marine animals are legal. This means that shrimShrimpalal.

Dr. Zakir Naik said marine animals. It is completely permissible for Muslims to eat it. Similarly, the Muslim scholars of the old era have called it halal.

Most muddies, faqihs and hadith scholars in the Maliki, Shafi’i, and Hanbali schools are among them.

Meanwhile, the fatwa of Darul Deoband, the oldest school in South Asia, discourages eating prawns.

Some other Islamic schools of India have called shrimp Makruh. Some Islamic scholars of Pakistan have declared shrimp as haram.

Is shrimp halal Shrimpafi Madhhab?

In the Hanafi Madhhab, prawns are not directly considered halal. Many of them are called shrimp Makruh. Others think shrimp are legal.

However, in the old books of the Hanafi Madhhab, eating all types of marine animals except fish is forbidden.

But many of the current generations of Hanafi scholars are reverting to the views of their earlier texts. And according to other world scholars,” opinions also give the idea that shrimp is halal.

Because the references that support this opinion from the Quran and Hadith are clearer and stronger in context, most scholars have accepted the idea of Halal.

Also, another reason shrimp is halal is Shrimpshrimp is such an anShrimp it has many nutritional properties.

On the other hand, Islam prohibits those animals which are harmful and unsafe for human health. But shrimps are not among those animals.
