Is it Haram to have a cat? Be happy knowing the ultimate truth

Cats have a sense of humor. Due to this, cats are very dear to many people. That is why we want to know – Is it Haram to have a cat?

I have seen a man love his kitten like his child. And I even kept kittens near the little ones myself. I used to play with kittens.

Once, one of my kittens died suddenly. I cried a lot after the cat died. Sadly, I left home and went to different houses for a few days.

Then my grandmother brought me a white and mixed black cat and gave it to me. You kept that cat with me for a long time.

Although the cat is a favorite animal, what is the provision of the cat in Islam? Is it Haram to have a cat? I am discussing this answer in today’s blog.

Is it Haram to have a cat?

No, it’s not Haram to have a cat, and this is the opinion of almost all Islamic scholars—anyone in his home, office, or workplace.

You can keep cats anywhere; it will be no cause of sin for him. Cats are magical creatures—perfect and beautiful creatures.

There is no difficulty in nurturing it. It also has unique benefits; cats destroy harmful insects and enhance the house’s beauty. The story we told above.

The story of Abu Hurairah – Radiyallahu Ta’ala Anhu – proves that the Messenger of Allah – may Allah bless him and grant him peace – allowed Abu Hurairah to rear cats. This means having cats are halal.

This is the opinion of Imam Shafi, Imam Ahmad, Abu Yusuf, and others. But if someone keeps a cat with dishonest intentions, it becomes Haram.

For example, someone has a cat and trains it to steal things from other people’s homes or hurt small children.

Or the dirty Western civilization supports sexual activity with animals like cats and dogs. Keeping cats for such purposes is prohibited.

Hadith about having a cat is halal?

A female caught a cat and died. As a result, the woman has been tormented. That woman has gone to Hell.

He kept the cat in check and did not give him food or drink. He did not give up again so that he could live by eating the insects of the land. (Sahih Muslim – 5645)

In the interpretation of this hadith, the eminent hadith scholar Allama Ibn Hajar Askalani (may Allah have mercy on him) said:

Imam Qurtubi (may Allah have an understanding of him) said: This hadith proves that it is permissible to keep a cat and keep a cat tied unless there is a mistake in feeding it. (Fathul Bari: 6/412)

God is also merciful if you have mercy on any of God’s creations, including animals and birds. He donated innumerable rewards.

The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said:

‘The Most Merciful has mercy on the merciful. Understand the earth’s inhabitants, then He who is in heaven will have mercy on you. (Abu Dawood – 4941)

There is another hadith

The Companions asked, “O Messenger of Allah, is there any reward for us among the animals?” He said, “Every fresh heart has thawab.” (Sahih Bukhari – 347)

The hadith also mentions that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) made the cat drink water from his ablution vessel. The famous Companion Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) is also renowned for his love of cats.

Is having a cat Haram in the house?

Is it Haram to have a cat

Having cats indoors are not Haram and is halal for a particular purpose. For example, to eliminate harmful animals inside the house, such as rats, spiders, snakes, etc. It is Wajib on the one who keeps a cat inside the house to give the cat enough food.

Or release him without keeping him prisoner so he can arrange his food. Similarly, if you own a cat in the house, it is not permissible to harm it.

In the hadith, the Messenger of Allah – may God bless him and grant him peace – said that a woman was thrown into Hell simply because she kept her cat.

He did not leave the cat to survive by eating ground insects.  (This hadith is in Sahih Bukhari Sharif.

When keeping a cat in the house, the question may arise: when we hold a cat or several cats in the place, these cats will face the food.

Will face the water. Then the drink mixed with the cat’s mouth will become impure, and the food will become contaminated.

Then it becomes a problem. How is it approved in Islam? The answer is that cat litter is not dirty. If a cat puts its mouth in water or food, it will not become unclean.

This is like the majority of Islamic scholars. Some scholars have said it is makruh to give water or food to the cat’s mouth.

Is it Haram to buy a cat?

Buying a cat is not Haram, but it’s Makrooh. Ibn Rajab said in his book Jamiul Uloom Wal Hikam that the ulama disagreed with the sale of cats. Many scholars consider it Makrooh.

Abu Hurairah, Jabir, Ata, Taus, Mujahid, Jabir Ibn Zayd, Awzai, and Ahmad Ibn Humble are the best among those who consider the sale of cats as Makrooh.

Again, many scholars have said that the sale of cats is halal. They do not consider it Makrooh.

Ibn Abbas, Hasan, Sirin, Hikam, Hanna, Sufyan Sauri, and Imam Abu Hanifa – Rahimahumullah – are particularly noteworthy.

Why are cats Halal and dogs Haram?

Why is it allowed to have cats in Islam but not dogs? This is a logical question, and we can answer this by saying that a dog is a suffering animal.

It hurts people in many ways. And he is a filthy creature, and the saliva from his mouth contains deadly germs.

It is scientifically proven why dogs are not allowed in the house. Moreover, dogs have some harmful qualities, and if they live with humans, these qualities can spread to humans.

And the most important thing is that Allah has forbidden it. Allah Ta’ala knows everything and understands that human knowledge is incomparable to His.

But if someone keeps the dog outside the house, then it will not be Haram for hunting. To protect your home.

To protect goods from robbers. etc., dogs can be reared, and it is not Haram at once, and it is forbidden to keep dogs inside the house.

And sexual activity with dogs is much more common in Western countries, and dogs are forbidden to do these things.

Is it Sunnah to have a Cat?

The Islamic ruling on cats is that keeping them is permissible. but not Sunnah,

The Messenger of Allah – may Allah bless and grant him peace – saw Companion Abu Hurairah have a cat.

He allowed him. A hadith – a woman went to hell belle she did Hell enable a cat to eat food. From these references, it is clear that having cats is halal, but it is not Sunnah.

To prove the Sunnah, it must be in the hadith that the Messenger of Allah, may God bless him and grant him peace, ever kept a cat. But it is not proven.

So it cannot be called Sunnah. Sunnah people Sunnah is interested in animals and spends time caring for them.

Spending money on that is an exaggeration, and it comes from Western culture, and they are very enthusiastic about animals.

For example, dogs love cats but do not care about their children, and they do not care for their children as much as they care for domestic animals.

An influence of Western civilization has come into Muslim society.

Are the remains of cats Haram?

Cat remains are not unclean. This is the opinion of Imam Shafi, Imam Malik, and Imam Abu Yusuf. Because it is narrated in Al-Muwatta, Al-Musnad, and Al-Sunan-

Abu Qatada went to his son-in-law Kabsha bint Ka’b bin Malik. Kaisha gave him the water for ablution.

At that time, a cat came to drink from that pot. Abu Qatada tilts the bank for the cat until he is satisfied and drinks.

Opinion of scholars

Kaisha said, then Katada looked at me and said are you surprised? I said – yes.

He said, “The Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, said, ‘The cat is not unclean.’ He is a very wandering animal in the house.

However, Imam Abu Hanifa and Muhammad said that the cat’s remains are Makrooh. Mentions this Badruddin al-Aini mentions this Badruddin al-Aini mentions this Badruddin al-Aini mentions this Badruddin al-Aini mentions this in his Sunan Abi Dawood’s interpretation.

And cat urine is unclean, according to most scholars. Imam al-Nawawi said in al-Majmoo ‘: The animals whose meat cannot be eaten do not urinate. This is like Imam Malik, Abu Hanifa, Ahmad, and all the scholars.

Similarly, according to the correct opinion, cat dung is also unclean. So it is necessary to be careful of urine and excrement and take purity from it.
