Husband and wife are not sleeping together in Islam.

In Islam, it is okay for a husband and wife not to sleep together if it is based on their mutual consent. But it must be temporary. But if they sleep separately against someone else’s consent, it is not acceptable.

So if the question arises in the mind of the husband and wife if they are separated for a long time, will their marital relationship be okay or not? Many say their marriage will end in divorce. Is that right?

In answer to this, we say that if the husband and wife do not sleep together for a long time or do not see and talk, then there will be no divorce because the specific way of divorce is divorce by the husband himself.

Islam does not support the statement that ‘if a husband and wife do not sleep together for a certain period, divorce will automatically result. Divorce requires a husband’s talaq or a wife’s talaq.

There is no provision for automatic divorce in Islam, even if they do not sleep together for four months, four years or more.

We learned that divorce does not happen because the husband and wife sleep apart for a long time. So, the husband and wife do not sleep together for a long time. They can sleep together if they want to.

In this way, after a husband has been missing for a long time, if he returns to his wife, they will be able to start a family as before. They do not need to be formally reunited.

Shaykh bin Baaz (may Allah have mercy on him) said:

‘A woman will be considered divorced only if her husband voluntarily divorces her in good health and there is no reason for the divorce to be prohibited.

For example, at the time of divorce, the husband’s brain is fully active. Not to be mad or drunk, etc. To keep the wife pure from menstruation during a divorce. At that time, he did not have sexual intercourse with his wife.
