Is it Haram to wear shorts? Clothing is one of our basic needs. The only means of body decoration and covering the body. Apart from that, clothing is also a unique tool for expressing personality.
In the Qur’an, Allah Ta’ala emphasizes the importance of clothing and says,
‘O humankind, I have provided clothing for you so that you may cover the part of your body exposed to sin, and the garment is also an instrument of beauty.
The best clothing is taqwa. This is one of the instructions of Allah so that people may take heed. (Surat al-A’raf: 26)
From this verse, we can understand the importance of clothing. But what kind of clothes to wear?
What will men’s clothing be? And what will be the dress of the women? Can I wear shorts? Or is it forbidden to wear shorts in Islam?

Is it Haram to wear shorts?
Yes, wearing shorts is Haram in Islam because Islam instructs us to wear clothes that cover the wholStarar.
A man from her navel to below the knee and a woman’s whole body is seventeen.
Regarding clothing, Allah says (interpretation of the meaning):
“O Children of Adam, We have sent down to you garments that cover your private parts and beautify you.” (Surat al-A’raf: 26)
Therefore, since a short dress fails to fulfil this purpose, wearing it will not be valid in the eyes of Shariah.
In the case of short dresses, there is a similarity between men and women, and Islam forbids men and women to wear the same clothes.
Rasulullah – Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam –
Cursed is the man who wears women’s clothes, and cursed is the woman who wears men’s clothes. (Abu Dawood, Hadith: 4096)
However, some explanations exist for the prohibition of short dresses for men and women, and we discuss that below.
Is it forbidden to wear shorts for men?

Suppose a Muslim man wears a T-shirt and a pair of shorts. The pants extend up to his knees. However, it will not be forbidden because a man ‘Awrah‘ is from his navel to his knees. And T-shirts are not women’s clothing. In this respect, he is not similar to women.
However, a man should always wear circumcision clothes. Such as Tub Jubba etc. Because our beloved PProphet wore all these clothes.
Is it Haram to wear shorts for women?
No Muslim girl can wear shorts like bra panties, tight-fit pants, Genji kameez, etc.
Muslim women are strictly forbidden to wear these clothes. Our beloved Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said,
‘I have never seen two types of people. (They will come in the future) One type is all the women who will be naked even if they wear clothes.
They will attract others to themselves, and they will be attracted to others. Will tilt the hair of their head like the hump of a camel of Bukhti Kabila.
They will not enter Paradise. They will not even get the scent of Paradise. But can obtain the fragrance of Paradise from far and wide. (Muslim)
Explaining that even if one wears clothes in this hadith, one will remain naked, Keram said in Muhaddisinin,
- Women should wear thin clothes under which their bodies can be seen clearly.
- They will wear shorts which are not enough for their Shame covering.
- And They will remain indifferent in taqwa even after receiving financial blessings from Allah.
- They will wear short, tight-fit clothes that make their body’s unique parts look attractive.
It is clear from this hadith that it is Haram for Muslim women to wear shorts.
What is the rule for wearing shorts in the house?
Wearing shorts at home may be legal sometimes, and it is valid if the other family member is not in front.
But if a mahram man is in front, then wearing shorts will not be halal because it is permissible to keep both hands, feet, and face open only in front of mahram men.
It is not lawful to publish any other organ besides these. But wearing shorts exposes other organs.
Can you wear shorts when sleeping in Islam?
You can sleep by wearing shorts, which will not be Haram. Because everyone’s sleeping room is separate and safe. No one can see the limbs of his body.
And it is not necessary to cover the awrah in your private room or when you are alone.
If a woman is in front of her husband or the husband is in front of his wife, then there is no problem wearing a short dress.
There is no need to cover seventeen between husband and wife. They may not be wearing clothes at all. Then why would you object to wearing shorts?
